Hidden Viet Gems @ Uncle Ho Tuckshop

The best way to everyone’s heart is through her stomach. Please don't tell me it's not true coz.....it works for me. If you like Vietnamese food, Uncle Ho Tuckshop definitely has the potential to win your heart.

On to the food! The fare is authentic Hanoi cuisine. It is even comparable to what I had in Vietnam a few years ago. The best part of this restaurant is that all the chefs are pure Vietnamese. Hence, you have a chance of tasting the local flavor to your heart’s content.

Yunzi, Benjamin and Jess (that's me) went to Uncle Ho only for a small snack but ended up having a full meal instead. Such was the variety of food on the menu that we ended up order six different dishes. Starting with one of the most popular Vietnamese dish, Bun Cha, each one of us enjoyed the sauce that resembled a soup in every respect. Mixed with chilli padi, lime, and garlic, one has to dip the noodles and vegetables in the sauce. Priced at $14.90, this dish is an absolute must-try for everyone visiting the restaurant.

The banana flower salad with chicken was a mouth-watering dish. Specially imported from Vietnam, the banana flower is a special delicacy. It's pretty hard to find this dish in Singapore.

The Pork Belly Baguette along with chilli sauce is another delicious dish to try out at this restaurant. The baguette is freshly hand-made so the amount served daily is limited. Come early to avoid disappointment!

Everyone should try out the Nem Lui, a fantastic dish made with great dedication by Uncle Ho. This is a delicious pork meat dish with lemongrass stick dipped in sweet and hot sauce. The restaurant has a special way of serving this dish. They wrap it in a sheet of rice paper and adorn it with your favorite vegetables and herbs. The pricing was slightly on the higher level at $16.90 but the taste compensates for the comparatively higher price.

Did you know? The fragrance from beef pho comes from all the spices and the greens. The taste is not overwhelming at all and goes well with the soup. The pricing is relatively fair too. Price at $9.90 for this lovely dish.

The course is complete with a helping of Bun Thit Ga. The last named dish is a dry style noodles with chicken. There's also a sauce specially made for you to dip your noodles!

We were in for a terrific surprise when we called for the bill. We were expecting a bomb considering the tasty food we had. However, we were surprised at the pricing. Though the price was a bit high when compared to the normal Vietnamese restaurants, it was affordable enough. Also, the ambience is a nice with the restaurant being spacious and clean all the way.

PS: You might be wondering why there's so little information on the pricing....oops..well...we were indulging ourselves too much with the food :P
