Kosnica Cafe

This is my first blog post, and guess what it is about? Dessert!

If you need a dose of sweetness to distract yourself from the hot weather in Singapore, I know where you can go to. This was how I pampered myself when I visited Kosnica Cafรฉ with Zhi Qiang, and Irene from sgfoodwanderers

Their signature offerings are waffles, premium gelato and cakes – as exclaimed boldly on their signboard. One of their must-try is the Trigona Stingless Bee Honey from Australia which can be found in their honey themed desserts and drinks. They also sell a premium honey from China by Nanstian Group.

The cafรฉ interior is sleek and simple, with nothing over the top. The white interior is peppered with lots of fluffy “bees” – cushions that you will find too irresistible to hug.  Comfortable and easy on the eyes, the interior does not overpromise and prompts you straight to what they have on the plate. The staff were amicable, despite being part-timers. I was taking my time to decide because everything looked delectable.

There is a wide selection of ice-cream flavours to top their waffles with. Hot selling ones include Thai Milk Tea, Sea Salt Caramel with Almonds, Earl Grey & Figs and Duo Chocolate. I had the latter, being a chocolate lover. Durian lovers, you can indulge too, as they have Mao Shan Wang ice-cream! A single scoop of ice-cream is priced at $6.20. Double up the value with two scoops at $9.00, and have it in a waffle cone with just an additional dollar.

Their most popular selection is the Waffle Gelato Honey. Their waffles can be savoured in their High Tea waffle set (Single scoop gelato with waffles + Tea at $9.90). This is a really good deal as a pot of tea costs $4.90 ala carte. I would recommend having the lavender tea, an organic leaf imported from France,  as an accompaniment because it balances the sweetness from the waffles out with a subtle fragrance. As a fan of tea, I encourage people to drink Lavender as it helps with insomnia, migraine, reduces stress and uplifts the spirits.

They patiently waited and we eventually ordered two types of waffles, each with two scoops. A waffle with double scoop costs $16.80.  You can opt for just a single scoop for $13.

The first one we tucked our sweet teeth into was the Milo Waffle topped with hazelnut and vanilla ice cream and some fruits. Crisp and fresh, the waffle and the gelato combination was a delight. The hazelnut ice cream contains some nuts, giving the bite a crunchy tinge.

Second we had, was the Buttermilk Waffle with a scoop of lavender honey ice cream. This tastes lighter than the Milo Waffle, and the lavender ice cream is also not too strong, making this combination easy on the palate.

Here are some mocktail highlights, to accompany the food:
White Lie $7.60
A mix of Yakult, Litchi, Lemon, Mint and Soda. It’s refreshing to the tastebuds and soul.

Apple of my Chai $8.60.
A new creation, this is a mixture of Straits Chai, cinnamon-infused green apple, vanilla and orange. Served with a smoking cinnamon stick, cinnamon lovers should try this, as the flavour stands out strongly, complementing the chai well. It tastes very much like Thai milk tea, and Zhiqiang likes it and claims that it is better than the one he had in Bangkok. I am personally not a fan of Thai milk tea, so it didn’t win me over as much.

They also serve a variety of cakes and tarts, such as Chocolate Truffle and Tiramisu, but we were too satiated with the sweet offerings to try more. Each slice of cake is priced at $6.70, pies and tarts at $6.20.

I was tempted to stay on a read a book to spend my afternoon there longer, and would have if I was alone. Even though I would recommend this place for solo afternoon moments, I was told that it is also a popular spot for birthday parties and events.
